🇸🇬 Spelling Bot

Spelling Bot can only use the voices installed in your device/browser. After installing a language, refresh the page to load it.

iOS / iPadOS

1. Open Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content.
2. Tap Voices, choose your language, and download the enhanced voice.
3. Return to the browser and refresh this page.

Android

1. Open Settings → System → Languages & input → Text-to-speech output.
2. Select Speech Services by Google (or your preferred engine).
3. Tap Install voice data and download the language voice.
4. Return to the browser and refresh this page.

Windows

1. Open Settings → Time & language → Language & region.
2. Add the language and select Speech features when prompted.
3. Go to the language options and ensure the speech pack is installed.
4. Refresh this page in your browser.

Cloud voices can be inconsistent for learning

Cloud-based voices are generated on remote servers instead of directly on the device. They can introduce delays, accent shifts, or unexpected pronunciations for proper nouns and uncommon vocabulary. For spelling practice, a consistent and locally installed voice helps students build reliable sound-to-letter associations.

If the app warns you that only cloud voices are available, it means there is no local voice installed for the test language on your device. Installing a local voice is the best way to improve pronunciation and reliability.

• iOS/iPadOS: In Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, download an enhanced voice for the target language.
• Android: In Text-to-speech output, use Install voice data for the selected engine or switch to a voice pack with higher quality.
• Windows: In Language & region, install a speech pack for the language and confirm it is available under speech options.
• Browser tip: After installing voices, close and reopen the browser to refresh the voice list.
